G-Floor - water proof, waterproof mat

I was talking with someone today who had a garage with almost no slope and needed to lay something down to keep the liquids and debris off his already bad concrete garage floor. The road salt is really hurting and breaking down the cement, and hes trying to keep the liquids from leaking through down to a storage garage below, something waterproof or water tight. The Garage Floor Mat G-Floor is about the only garage floor mat that can really say it holds the water back, and being made of tough vinyl it will stand up to all the salt, dirt/mud and other nasty stuff. We talked about washing the mat, and since he dose not have a slope, I recommended the standard thickness. This is a bit lighter weight and will be that much easier for him to drag out of the garage in the spring and wash it off with mild soap and water. I recommend the ribbed top because he will lay two mats together and over lap them or lay them up next to each other. The ribbed top will channel the water / liquids and keep them from traveling sideways to where the mats meet up. You can use 2x4's on the edges, under the matting in order to channel the water or liquids back to the center of the mat where it will evaporate and or dry up.

G-Floor, garage floor matting

G-Floor a great product for the right use, garage floors and more. I've seen and heard of people using this in commercial and industrial uses, covering room floors and storage areas or even showrooms. Some home owners use it on patios, basements, work rooms and excersie rooms.
This is a one piece roll of vinyl, simply unroll trim and you've got a new floor. It has different tops and colors too. Being one piece means no liquids or debris will find there way through the mat. I've seen woman dragging a roll of it out onto the drive way for cleaning. Now, you don't have to go to that extreme but hey if you want a slopped serface for all the soap and water to drain away then its great to have that option. It really stays in place too, it seems to be just thick enough that it lays flat and stays there. Hope this video gives you an idea of what this garage floor mat looks like and how it installs.

Found this mat at Mymatting.com, friendly and easy on the wallet.

Dog mats

Had an interesting call today, I was getting a quote for someone that was looking for rubber mats for their dog runs.  I learned some things that I thought I would pass along to everyone, common sense things, but things you may not think of.
First off rubber is usually black, and these mats are, dog runs are usually outside. Being outside and black you have to consider that at least part of the day the sun will shine on these mats, being black they will heat up fast and hold the heat longer. Morning or even late afternoon sun may be fine, but this does bring up the fact that black rubber mats could be to hot for the animal if in the direct sun. I would rather not sell a mat and have an animal safe. Take a careful look at your layout and see how much sun (whether indoors or outdoors) hits the area where you are considering putting mats, make sure you note different days and different amounts of sun,and don't forget to account for different seasons too. Please think of this no matter what you are considering putting down; matting, cement, black top, etc...

Some other things to think about is what you put the mats on, a firmer surface or subsurface in this case is better.Cement is idea, if not cement then consider digging down and adding very fine packing stone, maybe lime stone. Get it a bit wet and make sure you pack it tightly, then lay mats on top. You will have drainage as well as a firm subsurface.

The thinner mats cost less, but depending on the size of the animal, they could be able to feel the stone or irregular subsurface. You can get a thicker mat and would not have to worry about this problem.

Please keep these things in mind when picking a surface for your dog runs - most importantly, and simply, just keep the animals best interest and comfort in mind and you'll do great!

With all that said, on of the best mats around for animals is the Humane products. They offer warranties, quality, comfort and years and years of manufacturing, different thickness and for all animals and uses, They are top of the line and prepare to pay a higher price, after all you do get what you pay for with animal mats. There are cheaper, but that is exactly what you'll get - cheap! Mymatting.com is a matting manufacturer too and they seem to have really low markups and off mats and coverings, and animal mats (Humane) at amazing pricing, nice service too, check it out.

PROTECT YOUR CEMENT / CONCRETE IN YOUR GARAGE.

Garage floor mat installations require ONLY an hour or two, they do not have toxic chemicals and have no drying time like paint and epoxies. Who needs floor coverings? Unfortunately liquids and debris will begin to eat away at your floor. Concrete seems tough but it is really an absorbent porous material made up of water, sand and stone and will not last. Cover and protect it with products made from vinyl and PVC. There are a lot of choices of garage floor coverings, but however you decide to cover your garage flooring just make sure you do something to cover it before you find the value of your property eroding away while you sleep. Concrete does not last forever The Garage Mat also keeps your garage and home safe by preventing slips and falls. To sum up garage floor tiles, garage floor mat, garage matting, garage floor covers; These can look especially great and are easy to install, cost effective (especially compared to epoxy paints and coverings), and preventing slips and falls. They also provide a guard-all shield over a garage floor, attractive, comfortable to walk on, impervious to common liquids such as antifreeze and oil drippings. They serve as an effective vapor barrier and noise absorber, garage floor mat installs without adhesives, and can be moved outside for heavy cleaning or transferred to a new location. Shop around find the best price but do not forget about great service too, one place I’ve found is Mymatting.com.

WHAT KIND OF MATS ARE THERE FOR MY GARAGE?

As far as a garage floor cover is concerned, homeowners have several options. Covers are usually associated with the name garage floor mat. Mats can be one roll of flooring that will roll out and cover the whole floor. Mats can also be smaller and provide comfort or extra cleaning of shoes and boots. Other options for a cover would be garage floor tiles. Garage floor tiles can look especially great because you can have fun with design. Tiles can be laid out in different patterns, using colors or different top surfaces. You can add borders, walk areas, parking areas, drainage with open tiles. Tiles create an open air space between your garage floor and the mat, this will allow the concrete to breath. Garage Tiles cover all manner of sins such as uneven, damaged, cracked, or stained concrete. You’re favorite team colors can be incorporated in also, now the man cave is working its mojo. Garage floor mats or sometimes called G-Floor matting are one mat that covers the entire or large area of the garage floor. This very tough vinyl comes in a roll, simply roll it out and you have great protection and beauty also. Having one solid mat guards against liquid from working its way down to the cement. These mats can be cleaned easily by drug out of the garage or leave it right there and clean it.
A good number of consumers wisely choose floor mats, covers and tiles simply because it is the easiest to install. But you get so much more – Easy to install and to design, after that you are done, unlike floor paints and epoxies, which require strict preparation and long drying time, toxic chemicals. Paints and epoxies can also be a long term care problem, a lot of garage owners will add mats, tiles or covers to protect their new painted floor, why not just start with the garage floor mat. Compared to floor paints and epoxy, garage mats, tiles, pans and covers are the much cheaper and easier option. Mats, tiles, coverings and covers that are available are extremely tough and protective and have been tested and treated to repel any kind of corrosive liquid that may spill onto your garage flooring. Easy, quick and you get a ready to use beautiful garage right away, instant gratification! Now that the floor is down and you’ve covered and protected the concrete, its time to add some mats. Smaller mats can give fatigue relief in front of work-benches, even on the benches to protect the table top as well as what you are working on (they can help your project from slipping while you work). Smaller mats can add in scraping dirt and grime off your shoes or boots and keep the rest of the house clean, they can create walk ways or keep cabinets or other items up off the floor. Don’t forget to add some mats for that finishing touch.

NO TO EPOXY OR PAINT

Look for garage floor mat coverings, do not go with the paint or epoxy options, they do not allow concrete to breath and need lots of care and need to be redone now and then, and they are very hard to install (vapors, chemicals) compared to garage floor mat covings.
All the choices for garage floor mats, matting or covers are great. All made from PVC or Vinyl, all look great and serve the purpose of adding great looks as well as protection. We all have our own preferences; some like the black and white checker board look (racing look) and that is what is important the them. Tile mats will work fine and do a good job for you. Some insist on “no” liquids on the cement floor! No problem, the Roll mat will work great for them. You can see that they are all good products and they are all made with quality and superior material and they will probably last longer than the concrete or garage. This is an investment in your garage and will really not cost as much as you think, try calculating the cost of the mat over the life of your garage and see what you get. Don’t forget the traditional Garage Floor Mat these can be laid on top of your “subfloor” mats, tiles, rolls. A great way to get fatigue relief, comfort, extra footing, cleaner feet with better scraping. These would be obviously smaller mats and would lay in strategic areas, such as right in front of the door before you enter the house, right outside your car door (don’t drag debris and liquids in your car). You can even use some of the mats (Airomat) on top of the table, on shelving, in draws or box/containers.

HOW TO CHOOSE A GARAGE FLOOR MAT

How do you choose a garage floor mat, tile or roll - although one of the main things you want to accomplish is protecting your concrete, the other would be to make the best looking garage possible. Sometimes you cannot get both so you sacrifice one thing to get the other. There are several options - tiles, rolls and mats. Tiles and Rolls act as a “so called” sub-floor. Tiles will allow liquid and air to flow in between the tiles at the connections, no matter how tight the fit (Most tiles will have a loose fit - this makes it better for riding over uneven or damaged floor, this is a good thing). They also sit up on feet, this creates a nice airspace between the concrete and the tiles, liquid flows and air is good for the concrete, but yes liquids do get in there. Most garages are made with a drain or angled to the front for drainage, so this should be ok for the floor. Now, Rolls are vinyl and lay right on the concrete and do not connect like tiles, so they don’t let liquids flow under it, this is great although it lays on the concrete and some say concrete needs to breath. With tiles you can create any size floor and with roll mats, they come in sizes made just for your area, this is nice because you simply unroll this vinyl covering and you have protected the concrete with a one piece mat, no seems or connection points. Beautiful and easy to clean, and yet made from a tough vinyl. You can get the same kind of roll mat look in a product that comes in about 2’x2’ tiles that have puzzle type connection around it. These look the same as some of the roll mats but connect to create whatever size floor you need. There is one other Tile to consider, this one has just the right size openings in it. Yes liquids and debris will go down and through, and also flow to the drain or out the front of the garage (as garages are slopped for that reason). Think about it, the concrete gets to breath, right? And, you get something the others do not give you. With the openings doing all that work, you do not track all that liquid and debris into the house, your garage will look cleaner too. These tiles are really neat because they come with built in expansion joints. All are great options, if you over analyze anything you can find problems, nothing in life is perfect.
